Introduction

The Ocean Discovery League is a non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating deep-ocean exploration by developing accessible systems to broaden the community of those who explore and understand the deep sea. Founded in 2021 by deep-sea explorer Dr. Katy Croff Bell, the ODL is headquartered in Rhode Island, USA.

Activities

The Ocean Discovery League (ODL) focuses on conducting deep-sea research and exploration, alongside developing low-cost, easy-to-use systems to make deep-sea exploration more accessible. Additionally, they are dedicated to creating educational resources about the deep ocean and actively advocating for the conservation of these mysterious and vital parts of our planet.

The ODL is a member of the Deep Ocean Stewardship Initiative, a global coalition of organizations working to protect the deep ocean, and has received funding from sources such as the National Science Foundation, the Schmidt Ocean Institute, and the Oak Foundation. Their impactful work has been recognized and featured in prominent publications including the New York Times, National Geographic, and Wired.
